More reason for me to brag. Out of all the G20 countries, Canada ranks as the number one safest place for women, while the US ranks 6th – thanks largely in part to regression of reproductive rights. (Of course, that’s not to say there isn’t still a hell of a lot of work yet to be done.) – wundergeek
Dr. Willie Parker writes a very compelling post here about why he is going to Mississippi to become an abortion provider. It provides a great look at the reality on the ground and just what’s at stake in the abortion-rights debate, as well as a sobering reminder about how intersectionality impacts the women for whom abortion services are most critical. – wundergeek
Mitt Romney has chosen Paul Ryan as his running mate. This shouldn’t surprise anybody, but this is awful for pretty much anyone who’s not straight, white, at least upper-middle class, and male. It’s especially awful if you’re on any kind of government assistance or female. But then again, what can we expect from someone who is open about getting into politics because of Ayn Rand? – wundergeek
Huge news! Though it has yet to be confirmed, it seems that two of the four planned presidential debates will be hosted by women! This will mark the first time in 20 years that a debate has been hosted by a woman. Awesome stuff. – wundergeek
While we’re talking about intersectionality, women aren’t the only people who need abortion services or abortions.
Trans folks who can get pregnant exist.
This really can’t be sad enough. Thank you.
